Greencastle, Ind May 18 - Mangled and bruised, the dead body of Mrs. Hauck Seward, wife of a prominent farmer residing two miles east of Lena in Putnam County was found by her husband on his return from work Saturday evening. Three tramps are suspected of having committed the awful crime.  The room in which the dead body of the woman was found gave evidence that a terrible struggle had ensued before she was finally overpowered by her brutal murderers.  The walls were splattered with blood, the furniture was overturned and broken and the woman's clothing was almost torn from her body. Three tramps who were seen in the vicinity of the Seward home are believed to have committed the crime. There was no sign of robbery having been committed in the house or of criminal assault, and the motive the awful deed cannot be found. The freight trains coming eastward toward this city were searched by officers and tramps were taken off and put in jail but there was no indication that any of them had known of the crime. The excitement in the neighborhood in which the murder was committed is intense - kbz
